Description

The Cedar City Field Office has funding available to work with a partner under the Colorado Plateau Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit for the purpose of Bat habitat inventories. The inventories will include assessment of mines and caves that may constitute existing and potential bat habitat and an inventory of areas where standing and running water is present and that are likely to function as bat foraging areas. Monitoring of bat populations will occur where suitable habitat is identified. This will include use of mist and Harp nets for non-lethal capture and examination of bats, and night surveillance, which will include using night-vision and acoustical electronic equipment to determine the nature and extent of bat use. Follow-up winter inventories may be performed in order to assess the use of potential habitat as hibernacula or maternity colonies. Applications will be accepted from Universities, state government, and non-profit organizations who demonstrate knowledge of monitoring bat populations and inventories of bat habitat within southwest Utah.
