Description

This is a continuing cooperative agreement with Utah State University (Entomology, Biological Sciences Department) under the Colorado Plateau Cooperative Ecosystems Study Units Network. The primary purpose of this continuing monitoring and research is on the effectiveness of selected biocontrol agents as well as the effects of environmental conditions on distribution and establishment of these insects (ie Larinus minutes, Mecinus janthinus) for noxious weed control. Project is in support of the noxious weed control program. This project provides learning opportunities to students in the principles of entomology, noxious weed control, and issues related to integrated pest management on public lands. Additionally the information gained is used by federal, state, local land managers and private citizens in cooperative weed management groups to design and implement more effective integrated weed management programs. The research focus includes insect effectiveness on weed control and the effects of environmental conditions on distribution and establishment of selected biocontrol agents (ie Larinus minutes, Mecinus janthinus) for selected noxious weeds.
