Description

In coordination with the CDFG and USFWS, the grantee will conduct the study entitled �Geometric morphometric evaluation of a potential new subspecies of tui chub (Siphateles bicolor spp.)�; the project purpose is to collect morphometric data from a group of fish from different sources to determine if they are different or similar. The results will be compared with the diagnoses of the molecular composition of the fish, which was conducted earlier and a draft and final report prepared. The grantee will compare the existing 27tui chub from Cabin Bar with a like number of others using the methods of Galicia, D., S.C. Parmenter, P.M. Leunda, J. Madoz, and R. Miranda. The comparison will include bones with taxonomic value using geometric morphometrics for the identification of Siphateles bicolor subspecies from the Owens River basin. (See Galacia et al. 2008. The CDFG and USFWS will work with the grantee to obtain permits to transport the specimens and conduct the research. If needed, USFWS and CDFG would collect live fish or preferably locate existing specimens in museums for the geometric morphometric comparison.
