Description

The Utah Bureau of Land Managements Cedar City Field Office has acquired one-time funding to study three plants endemic to the Frisco Mountains. The plants are federally listed candidate species under U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Endangered Species Act (ESA). The BLM has an opportunity to support research of Frisco Buckwheat (Eriogonum soredium), Ostlers pepperplant (Lepidium ostleri), and Frisco Clover (Trifolium friscanum). The objective of this study is to determine baseline information for the species and associated habitats. The research will also develop a rangewide GIS habitat model that will aid in the determination of the presence and location of suitable habitat in Millard and Beaver counties. The data that is collected during this research project will be used by management agencies to coordinate and direct habitat management projects, such as creating and protecting crucial habitats. Applications will be accepted from Universities, state government, and nonprofit organizations who demonstrate knowledge of monitoring special status plants within southwest Utah.
