The Wildlife Without Borders-Latin America and the CaribbeanProgram(WWB-LAC) funds projects designed to strengthen the ability of Latin American and Caribbean institutions to manage and conserve species, habitats, and ecological processes for the benefit of the people of the Americas and the world. Of particular interest are projects that build the human and institutional capacity to effectively conserve and manage biodiversity in Latin America and the Caribbean through a holistic and inter-disciplinary approach with a primary emphasis on the social context. Specific program strategies include: Developing, strengthening, and replicating high-quality conservation training programs for future conservation professionals; Building and sustaining regional networks that promote collaboration, shared learning, and best practices focusing on conservation and people; Engaging key audiences to change attitudes and behaviors in order to catalyze a greater environmental ethic and build constituencies for conservation. Projects should take place in Latin America or the Caribbean, ideally in a recognized high priority ecosystem or eco-region, or a key location associated with flagship, endangered, or migratory species of regional concern. If work is to be conducted outside the region, the proposal must explain why it is preferable that the project is implemented elsewhere. (Please note that Mexico is not included in the WWB-LAC program. Projects in Mexico are administered through the Wildlife Without Borders � Mexico Program). It is anticipated that each annual funding deadline may focus on one specific program strategy (listed above) that will be advertised approximately 1-3 months in advance, as well as the possibility of exceptions in deadline dates due to emergency situations.
