To foster the development of a diverse and highly trained workforce of behavioral scientists to assume leadership roles related to the Nations research efforts in the area of type 1 diabetes, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) invite applications for the establishment of institutional research training programs to develop a cadre of diverse and highly trained behavioral scientists who will conduct research relevant to improved clinical management and quality of life for patients with type 1 diabetes.Training grant (T32) awards will be made to eligible institutions to provide a program to prepare predoctoral and postdoctoral behavioral scientists, selected by the institution, for behavioral research careers in type 1 diabetes. At each stage of training, supervision and mentorship will include both a diabetologist and a behavioral scientist as a way to maximize the relevance of the training to type 1 diabetes and encourage a multi-disciplinary approach to research.
