Chippewa River Islands Wildlife Habitat Survey
ArchivedBureau of Land Management
Description
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages approximately 80 small islands in the Chippewa River in seven Wisconsin counties. A basic inventory in 2010 identified several ephemeral ponds on many of these islands. The BLM wishes to learn whether these island habitats exhibit hydrology characteristic of true ephemeral ponds and whether they are used by breeding amphibians. Since flooding may introduce fish into these depressions, and since they are separated from upland habitat by a wide river, it is possible that they are not used by breeding amphibians
