NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD: This funding announcement is not a request for applications or proposals. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service's intention to fund "Moton Museum." Public Law 102-525, the enabling legislation for Brown v. Board of Education NHS, defines its purpose to “Preserve, protect and interpret for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generation, the places that contributed materially to the landmark United States Supreme Court decision that brought an end to segregation in public education.” The Moton Museum is located on the school site that was part of the Brown v. Board of Education case. Opened on April 23, 2001 - the 50th anniversary of the student strike at Moton that eventually led to the challenge of segregated education in Virginia. The challenge culminating in the Brown v. Board of Education case. The Moton Museum tells the story of the Virginia litigants who were part of the eventual case that overthrew segregation in education. The primary mission of the Moton Museum has been to communicate the story of the students who were involved with the Brown case.
