Description

The primary objective of the project is to evaluate the effects of surface and subsurface drainage on Service trust resources (i.e., water, sediment, biota) within Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs) managed by the Madison Wetland Management District. The recipient for this grant would perform biological assessments to evaluate wetland vegetation, benthic macroinvertebrates, and amphibian populations on WPAs. A total of 12 -18 sites will be selected to represent a gradient of exposure to agricultural chemicals based on tile drain water quality data collected in 2012. Biological assessments would be conducted in 2013 and 2014, with funding support not to exceed $40,000 per year. This financial assistance opportunity is being issued under a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program (Great Plains CESU).
