Analysis of Acoustic-Tag Data from Juvenile Chinook Salmon: 2012 Data and Historical Analyses

Description

Spatially detailed acoustic-tag detection data have been collected from migrating juvenile Chinook salmon in the San Joaquin River and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta since 2006. Spatially complete tagging studies have been performed since 2010. These data provide important information on Chinook salmon route use and survival through this region, and on the relationship between factors such as river discharge (flow) and survival. Analysis has been performed of the 2010 and 2011 data, but is still needed for the 2012 data. Additionally, a multi-year analysis of the available historical data may elicit more comprehensive information about survival, route use, and effects of flow. In each case, appropriate statistical analysis of the data depends on using quantitative methods tailored to the study design and the structure of the data.
