Description

The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: 1. Complete molecular DNA extraction, amplification, purification, and sequencing for 12 subspecies, from 6 genes, across the geographic distribution of Z. hudsonius with an emphasis on northern populations in western North America. Sampling will include at least 50 individuals for the 5 nDNA genes plus approximately 100 individuals for 1 mtDNA gene (includes skin samples). 2. Deliver : 2 manuscripts for peer-review Product 1: Manuscript submitted for publication (1 August 2012) evaluating conservation validity from phylogenetic perspective (taxon and genomic sampling). Product 2: Manuscript submitted for publication (30 Aug 2012) that will address times of divergence, test taxonomic relationships, and assess historical-biogeographic hypotheses and levels of exchangeability - phylogeographic framework (geographic sampling). 3. Explore phylogenetically informed species distribution models (SDM) - ENMTools, Maxent, ArcGIS. This Single Source Award is being made in accordance with Department of the Interior Policy 505 DM 2.14 B number 4 Unique Qualifications which allows for award without competition to an applicant. The applicant is uniquely qualified to perform the activity based upon a variety of demonstrable factors such as location, property ownership, voluntary support capacity, cost-sharing ability, if applicable, technical expertise, or other such unique qualifications.
