NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD FY12 PROJECTS: This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service’s (NPS) intention to fund six Great Lakes-Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit Projects. Funded projects include: P12AC10454-University of Wisconsin, Madison (Historical and Projected Climate Trends in U.S. National Parks for Vulnerability Analyses and Adaptation of Resources Management), P12AC10429-Northern Michigan University (Understand Casual Pathways of Avian Botulism by Analyzing Gut Contents of Affected Birds), P12AC100449-Michigan Technological University - Michigan Research Institute (Mapping Lake Bottom Environments in Great Lakes National Parks Using Satellite Imagery,, P12AC100451-Stephen F. Austin State University (Northeast Region Public Engagement at Three National Park Sites: Evaluation and Future Strategies), P12AC10047-Indiana University Northwest (Evaluation and Assessment of Sediment Toxicity and Coastal Dune Restoration at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore), and P12AC10311 (Ojibwe Use and Impact on Forests at Voyagers National Park). These projects intend to improve the scientific base for managing public lands by providing resource managers with high-quality scientific research, technical assistance, and education. They seek to resolve resource problems at multiple scales using interdisciplinary ecosystem studies involving the biological, physical, social, and cultural sciences. The National Park Service will be substantially involved in fulfilling the tasks and objectives of the projects.
