Description

The purpose of the program is to improve accurate cancer staging to allow for comparisons across countries and to increase capacity for resource appropriate cancer screening and planning. The FOA will address three areas of cancer prevention and control 1) cancer surveillance, 2) capacity building, and 3) cervical cancer control planning. For the purposes of this FOA, these areas will be divided into two distinct components with separate objectives and timelines. While this program focuses on cancer in a global setting, it will provide substantial benefit to United States cancer surveillance programs, including the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), through the emphasis placed on coordination and collaboration between the U.S. and international cancer standard setters. Low-resource settings in U.S. states, tribes, and territories will also benefit from the lessons learned and tools developed through this program to prevent and control cancer around the world. This program addresses the “Healthy People 2020” focus area(s) of Cancer and Tobacco.
