Description

The USGS Alaska Science Center is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner to provide research to investigate seasonal variation in avian malaria infection, avian influenza infection and seroprevalence in a population of high-latitude-wintering mallards (Anas platyrhynchos), and to assess relationships between timing of viral shedding and duration of antibody presence following infection. Waterfowl form the major natural reservoir for avian influenza A virus (AIV; Olsen et al. 2006).
