Description

The U.S. Embassy announces an Open Source RFP inviting organizations to submit a proposal supporting people-to-people activities between the people of the United States and Pakistan focused on the empowerment of women and girls. These activities should include events for internationally-recognized advocacy days, as well as year-round awareness, capacity building and leadership development programs, education and sports programs. Proposals should advance the empowerment of women and girls in a wide variety of areas, ranging from issues of education, health, entrepreneurship, political empowerment, and gender-based violence. Programs Goals: 1. Empower Women and Girls: This RFP aims to support the Department of State’s wide-ranging global initiatives to promote women’s social and economic development, integrate women into peace and security building, address and prevent gender-based violence, and ensure women’s full participation in civic and political life. Global stability, peace, economic development, and prosperity depend on advancing the rights of women and girls and ensuring the inclusion of their voices in civil society. Research shows that progress in women’s employment, health, and education can lead to greater economic growth and stronger communities. Societies where women are included in decision-making processes are less prone to violence and more stable. Integrating women to advance good governance in the corporate and government sectors is critical to economic growth and inclusive development which supports regional security. Women’s political and civic engagement not only increases their leadership abilities, but also leads to social and economic benefits for their communities and countries. 2. Increase People-to-People Ties Between the United States and Pakistan: Proposals should develop stronger ties between the people of the United States and Pakistan, through shared information, experiences, exchanges, and expertise. 3. Address Gender-Based Violence: The prevention of and response to gender based violence is essential to citizen security, rule of law, and the development of secure and prosperous countries. Studies prove that violence against women and girls has a significantly negative impact on economic, health, and legal development across all levels of society. It is a human rights challenge that undermines economic productivity and public health. Proposals should include public awareness programs and increased engagement with civil society, especially men, boys, and community leaders in the advancement of effort. 4. Strengthen Local Capacity: The projects envisioned under this RFP should be sustainable, community-oriented projects and encourage civil society participation and social inclusion. The key actors are local community groups, civil society members, young leaders, entrepreneurs, university administrators and students, and school administrators and students, and sports teams. Exposure to sports, recreation, and exercise helps in promoting leadership skills, creating a spirit of teamwork, and improve academic performance, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
