Description
OVERVIEW: To encourage private sector participation in fulfilling the mission of the National Park Service by engaging underserved audience, increasing visitor diversity, and developing stewardship. This is accomplished by expanding the summer youth program, providing busing opportunities to public lands, and increasing the use of interns at park sites. STATEMENT OF JOINT OBJECTIVES/PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN: Increase public participation and use of national parks and public land in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Strengthen partnership opportunities between parks, heritage areas, and other private and public sites related to Civil Rights. . RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT: Help plan and coordinate all summer outreach events related to initiative; coordinate and administer all bussing operations related to both the summer initiative and the school year program; share in staff and recruitment of volunteers and interns for staffing the summer initiative and the NATIONAL PARK SERVICE INVOLVEMENT: Work collaboratively with the partner to plan and coordinate the summer youth initiative; recruit school programs to participate in the summer and school year programs; provide NPS staff to work collaboratively with all youth related programs. NPS did not solicit full and open competition for this award based the following criteria: The TKHA is a private, non-profit corporation which operates Freedoms Frontier NHA, an umbrella organization that works with dozens of historical and natural sites in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. There is no other entity that does this type of work in the area that the NPS is engaging in. The NPS has a two year successful history of working collaboratively on this project and TKHA has a proven track record.
