A. Project Background Information: The internship program began as an Assistance Agreement for Interns at the national level. In the previous ten years the Assistance Agreement transitioned to a statewide agreement for BLM-Arizona. As the statewide agreement ends in Fiscal Year 2014, there will be another transition to the District level for an Intern and Youth Conservation Corps Assistance Agreement that will cover a period of 5 years. B. Project Objective: The purpose of these projects is to provide opportunities for high school and college level students and recent graduates to obtain valuable field experience by being exposed to various natural resource management and restoration projects on public land and to preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery; assist those most impacted by economic adversity; provide investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological advances in science and; invest in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits.
