Defense Production Act (DPA) Title III Cadium Zinc Telluride (CdZnTe) Substrate Program
ArchivedAir Force -- Research Lab
Description
The objective of this DPA Title III Project is to expand existing domestic, economically viable, merchant supplier production capabilities to produce unpolished and polished Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) substrates for use in National Security Space (NSS) applications. The focus of this effort shall be on the expansion of CZT boule growth and large format, (211)-oriented substrate production; the stretch objective is the production of 9cm x 9.5cm substrates from 150mm diameter boules. The quality of CZT substrates produced throughout this effort will be verified against current industry standards; quality verification efforts will include the growth of Mercury Cadmium Telluride (MCT) detector layers via Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) as well as production and testing of sensor chip assemblies (SCAs). The offeror shall propose partnerships as needed to complete substrate polishing, MBE growth/processing, and SCA production, including securing access rights to the offeror-proposed read-out integrated circuit (ROIC) and SCA designs to be utilized in the demonstrations.
