FY15 ALERT Funding Opportunity
ArchivedPHMSA Hazmat Grants - Inactive
Description
Funds are now available for the FY15 Assistance for Local Emergency Response Training (ALERT) Grant. The ALERT Grant is focused on response activities for the transportation of crude oil, ethanol and other flammable liquids by rail. In accordance with the Omnibus Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, P.L.113-235 (the Act), PHMSA is authorized to use prior year recoveries from HMEP grant awards to provide funding for the ALERT Grant. This grant will be used to provide local emergency responders with additional training on hazardous materials transportation incidents. Grant funding will be sourced from prior year recoveries. As a result, PHMSA will apply existing resources toward its mission of protecting people and the environment from the risks inherent to the transportation of hazardous materials. Hazardous material training for volunteer or remote emergency responders has been identified as a top priority by PHMSA in FY15. This new competitive grant opportunity requests applications from nonprofit organizations that have the ability to provide direct or web-based hazardous materials training for volunteer or remote emergency responders. Ideally, PHMSA seeks applications from nonprofit organizations that represent public-private partnerships to improve regional emergency response.
