Description

Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) proposes a partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) to provide education based conservation crews. This program will be a minimum of 10 weeks long and complete work on projects identified by Service staff. RMYC will manage the day to day needs of the program while collaborating with Service staff on project details. Local youth (16 to 25 years old) and staff will be hired for this project. In addition, RMYC will provide training and educational opportunities for the crew, including, but not limited to, cultural awareness and diversity training, technical skills training, environmental stewardship, and positive peer mentoring. Youth Corps Model: The corps model is built on the foundation of engaging young adults to work together to serve community needs. Under the guidance of an adult mentor, corps members realize the strength of teamwork, diversity, and perseverance as they problem solve through challenging work projects. A central theme of the model is training and education; members are engaged in a rigorous curriculum that addresses workplace proficiencies, conservation ethics, and life skills as youth prepare to be leaders in their community.
