Description

The funding opportunity (CFDA 15.657, Endangered Species Conservation - Recovery Implementation Funds) will provide federal financial assistance, not to exceed five years, to secure endangered or threatened species information, undertake restoration actions that will lead to delisting of a species; help prevent extinction of a species, or aid in the recovery of species. This award is made under the authority of Endangered Species Act of 1973, 16 U.S.C. 1541-1543. Specifically at Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, the Piping Plover Atlantic Coast Population Recovery Plan and Cape May National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan will be implemented through interpretation of refuge management, threatened and endangered species and shorebird conservation by interpreters to visitors at the refuge's Two Mile Beach Unit seasonal beach closure boundaries. The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: recruit, hire, train, and schedule interpreters; oversee implementation of the program; complete administrative tasks related to the program; develop shorebird conservation materials; identify necessary program changes/improvements in partnership with the refuge; provide monthly reports of interpretive (public) contacts made at the beach closure boundaries through the period of Agreement to Service Project Officer. These actions will help conserve threatened and endangered wildlife species not only for their benefit, but also for the public good derived from such conservation efforts. Through the activities provided through this Cooperative Agreement, the Service will be better able to manage beachfront habitat and increase support for wildlife conservation.
