Description

The purpose of the “Feed the Future Nepal Seed and Fertilizer Sectors Development Project” is to increase national crop productivity and food security of poor households by strengthening the seed and fertilizer systems and improving farmers’ access to quality seeds and Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) technologies in Nepal. The project is composed of two components (seeds and fertilizer) and will operate primarily by improving the capacity of both the public and private sectors in their respective roles in technology development and dissemination. Project activities will be focused in the FTF Zone of Influence (ZOI) 20 districts on the rice, maize, lentils, and other high value vegetable value chains. Through these two components, the SFDP project is expected to: 1. Increase the role and capacity of public and private sector actors in technology development and dissemination; 2. Increase the number of productivity enhancing technologies available to smallholder producers in the FTF ZOI. 3. Strengthen international partnership and adequate financing for agricultural research to increase productivity and maintain or improve soil fertility.
