Description

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has proposed to work cooperatively with the recipient to monitor federal subsistence wildlife resource populations (i.e. moose, caribou, mountain goats, furbearers, small game, and upland birds) on both BLM and State of Alaska lands in Game Management Unit 13 (GMU). The wildlife migrated across federal and state lands. In the past, a state agency has established monitoring and assessment of game resources. BLM will share costs, field staff and expertise to actively manage subsistence resource on BLM lands and neighboring State of Alaska lands in GMU13. The project will include sharing the cost of VHF/GPS collars, immobilization drugs, fixed-wing and helicopter time, darting supplies, and field staff to monitor subsistence wildlife resource populations. This subsistence wildlife resource populations� project will provide crucial information on twinning rates, population composition, population size, recruitment, and movement data - all important information used in determining stipulations for permits involving activities that potentially impact federal subsistence hunting seasons.
