Background: The BLM is interested in partnering with a recipient to provide youth with education and work opportunities, through conservation projects, which will further their understanding and appreciation of natural and cultural resources. Conservation projects, such as but not limited to fuels reduction, fence construction, wildlife habitat protection, environmental stewardship and recreation site construction and maintenance, will occur on public lands within the Prineville District.Objectives: The objective of this agreement is to provide youth the opportunity to connect with the natural world through completion of natural resource projects on public lands within the Prineville District. These projects will enhance and conserve public recreation, fish, wildlife, and plant resources while providing youth with positive work experiences, development of work skills, a sense of personal responsibility, encouragement for a long term community service commitment, and the potential for future employment of youth in natural resource management.The recipient agrees to:Ensure at least half of the youth engaged are residents from Crook, Jefferson, Deschutes, Wheeler, Sherman, Gilliam, Grant, Wasco, Klamath, and Lake Counties.Youth crews must be have at least 3 youth.Provide a skilled crew leader to supervise daily operations of each skilled or labor crew.Engage local youth, ages 17-25, in public land management. Construct and maintain BLM infrastructure such as fences, parking areas, gates, trails, signs, and other areas.Improve the health and productivity of public lands through projects such as invasive plant treatments, fuels reduction work, seed collection and other projects. Gather information on the condition of public lands such as the extent of invasive plants, the location of fences, inventory of trails, and other data collection.
