Description

Purpose of the award: To adequately manage, monitor and protect threatened and endangered species a complete and up-to-date data set is needed that includes information on species location, population size, habitat, and threats. Location-specific data are extremely valuable for assessing range and abundance, and for identifying areas of critical habitat as defined by the Endangered Species Act. This complete data set is also needed to guide energy development away from sensitive areas, to assess species vulnerability to climate change, to monitor population trends, and to document the effectiveness of recovery actions. In order to maintain an up-to-date dataset, three main activities need to occur: field surveys, population monitoring, and data development.
