Description

This project represents a joint federal-university partnership of support for research, as intended by the CESU program. In this project, federal and university partners will be co-Principal Investigators on a project designed to promote better understanding of an environmental problem in Cape Krusenstem National Monument, Alaska. This differs considerably from a contract in that: a) both federal and university partners are highly involved in the development of the research, and 2) a land grant university receives research dollars that allow them to retain associate professors who continue the university's purpose of serving public research needs. Without these research dollars, many staff such as Dr. Shiel would not be able to be retained and the services to the public would thus be lost.
