Desalination and Water Purification Research and Development (DWPR) Fiscal Year 2016 Pilot Projects
ArchivedBureau of Reclamation
Description
Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), Reclamation is forming partnerships with private industry, universities, water utilities, and others to address a broad range of desalting and water purification needs. The goal of DWPR is to reduce the costs and environmental impacts of treating impaired and unusable waters. This FOA is intended for pilot projects only. Pilot projects are typically preceded by research studies (funded previously by DWPR or others) that demonstrate that the technology works. They usually involve flow rates above 1 gallon per minute and are tested using natural water sources rather than synthetic or laboratory-made feed water. Pilot projects are used to determine the technical, practical, and economic ability of a process. Costs are developed for capital and operation and maintenance. Reclamation will cost-share up to $400,000 per agreement in the Pilot Project category. This is divided as follows: up to $200,000 for the first year for pilot plant design, construction and installation and up to $200,000 for an optional second year for testing, modification and evaluation. Second year funding is not guaranteed and it is dependent on congressional funding and adequate work completed in year one.
