U.S. Mission to Afghanistan

Description

This project will support a summit for at least 18 and up to 30 participants—approximately 15 from Afghanistan and 15 from Pakistan, with equal representation from the two countries—who will discuss areas of future cooperation between the two countries in specific sectors of interest. The program will be up to one week in length and should take place no earlier than July 2016 and no later than April 2017. While Washington, D.C., is the preferred location for this program, proposals will also be considered for third locations, especially those in readily-accessible regional hubs (e.g. Dubai, Istanbul). To this end, at least 18 and up to 30 professionals—up to 15 from each country—will participate in a one-week program (approximate) to evaluate and debate ties in three distinct but overlapping sectors, or “pillars”, and discuss practical steps toward increased cooperation in those areas. For the proposal, these pillars should be: civil society and religious organizations; business-to-business ties; and political engagement. These topics are subject to change however and will be confirmed by PAS Kabul after the award has been made. The breakdown of project participants will be approximately ten specialists for each of the three pillars, five from each country.
