ArchivedBureau of Land Management
Description
BACKGROUND: The North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI) is a vital collaboration between Federal, Sate and non-governmental organizations (NGO) for sharing the latest knowledge on resources and information on birds and bird habitat conservation and management. As part of its mission, the BLM seeks to continue to support this valuable collaboration of best practices in preserving and protecting nearly 400 species of birds dependent on BLM lands for part or all of their lifecycle. This support will help fulfill the North American Bird Conservation Initiative conservation goals and objectives as recognized in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the US Fish and Wildlife Service concerning protection of migratory birds. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this financial assistance will be to support the cooperation and collaboration of Federal, State, and NGO natural resource professionals, resource agencies and conservation organizations to further the purpose of migratory bird conservation in North America. PUBLIC BENEFIT: Sharing information on research, management, and bird conservation initiatives and practices through NABCI not only protects these valuable natural resources, but also provides the public an enhanced experience on public lands and an enhanced opportunity to be more informed public stewards of public lands resources for bird habitat and population development and utilization.
