BLM-Alaska, Freshwater Fish Inventory Program, National Petroleum Reserve â¿¿ Alaska (NPR-A)
ArchivedBureau of Land Management
Description
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Sport Fish Division conducts an Alaska Freshwater Fish Inventory (AFFI) program throughout the State, with various regions being targeted depending on an evaluation of priorities and data gaps. The State agency is the only entity that has conducted this program, which they have done successfully for more than the last two decades. The State also manages and maintains the official AFFI database as well as the Anadromous Waters Catalog (AWC). Various regions are targeted depending on an evaluation of priorities and data gaps. Over the next two summers, this program would be collecting information about fish species with the vast expanse of the NPR-A. To accomplish this task a targeted number of site would be used on both State and BLM lands. The Alaska Freshwater Fish Inventory (AFFI) program has been conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Sport Fish Division throughout the State for more than two decades. The information obtained through the inventory will be part of the AFFI database as well as the Anadromous Waters Catalog (AWC). Various regions are targeted depending on an evaluation of priorities and data gaps. The type of information collected (distribution of fish species) can be a valuable contribution to the BLMâ¿¿s land management decisions and site-specific mitigations related to oil and gas exploration and development in the NPR-A.
