Description

Centers for Independent Living (CILs) provide services to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential within their families and communities. CILs are consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, non-residential, private nonprofit agencies. Their work focuses on five core services: Information and referrals; Independent living skills training; Peer counseling; Individual and systems advocacy; and Services that facilitate transition from nursing homes and other institutions to the community, assistance to individuals at risk of entering institutions, and transition of youth to postsecondary life. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate that they can comply with standards and assurance as outlined in section 725 of part C of title VII of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (Pub.L.113-128), and service areas are consistent with the design included in the State Plan for establishing a network of centers.
