Bureau of Land Management

Description

The BLM has been supporting an education outreach program sponsored by Friends of Archaeology (FOA) of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation. This program has conveyed archaeological knowledge of New Mexicoâ¿¿s cultural history and lifeways to communities and schools throughout New Mexico. This program has been conducted formally since 1991, and in 2005 it received recognition for Excellence in Public Education from the Society for American Archaeology. Funded primarily by private donations and funds raised by FOA events, the program has expanded through the existing BLM AA to include curriculum development and teacher training through BLMâ¿¿s Project Archaeology. Any receipient of this new AA will be expected to develop and run a similar program as the one that is in existence now.
