Description

Project objectives include supporting the National Park Service Vital Signs Program through continued, long-term water quality monitoring with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Appalachian Highland Network Vital Signs selected watersheds, continued long-term investigation of the effects of acidic deposition on water quality and aquatic biota through better understanding the fate and transport of these pollutants from air through soil to the streams; and characterization of natural biogeochemical processes to better assess risks to natural systems from acidic deposition.
