ArchivedNational Park Service
Description
This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities without competition. This Notice of Intent provides notice of the NPS' intention to fund the following project without competition based on Unique Qualifications of the Recipient as owner of the building that houses the temporary NPS Visitor Center for the recently established NPS Pullman National Monument, while a new Visitor Center is being constructed. The NPS is providing funds to the Historic Pullman Foundation for the purpose of making required ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) modifications to the exterior and parking areas of its current visitor center, which is now housing both the Historic Pullman Foundation and the NPS Pullman National Monument Visitor’s Center. Pullman National Monument was established in 2015 as the nation’s 406th National Park Service site. This unique area is located south of Chicago, in northeast Illinois. Its namesake invented the first Pullman sleeping car which was constructed in 1964 and then set out to create one of the first planned communities in which employees could live, work, and commune. The NPS is partnering with the Historic Pullman Foundation to plan and develop visitor services in the newly established part of the Park System. Plans are being developed to build a new NPS Visitor Center onsite, and in the interim the Historic Pullman Foundation is providing space in its current building. The NPS collaborated with the Foundation on the development of the specifications for the accessibility modifications and will provide staff oversight of the project in collaboration with the Foundation as work proceeds.
