Description

This project will continue efforts to preserve museum collections stored at the Western Archeological and Conservation Center and at Grand Teton National Park by focusing on survey of 3,000 objects, ethnographic research of 55 objects, and storage improvements for 30 objects that need preservation attention. This project is an opportunity for students at The University of Arizona with pre-program conservation and museum interest to acquire experience assisting National Park Service and Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology conservators in identifying preservation issues with archeological materials at WACC, researching and designing storage solutions, and performing ethnographic research of objects in preparation for exhibit. This project will provide an ideal framework for students to acquire diverse skills related to understanding conservation analysis techniques, preventive care, rehousing to museum standards, conservation, and collections management, and communicating this kind of information to the public.
