Description

Numerous land use actions have led to an overall decrease in watershed health across Western Oregon. Agricultural development, road building and forestry practices have decreased watershed health by inhibiting key functions. Past practices of riparian grazing and stream cleaning have degraded aquatic habitat and increased water temperatures. Many road-stream crossings have blocked aquatic organism passage and also increased delivery of fine sediment to streams. Watershed functions are important to maintain or restore because native aquatic species have adapted to the habitats created by these functions. The BLM is interested in partnering with recipient(s) to assess, plan, monitor and improve watershed function in the Siuslaw and Willamette Watersheds.
