Description

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy – Chief Evaluation Office (CEO), U.S. Department of Labor (DOL, or the Department, or we), announces the availability of approximately $2 million in grant funds authorized by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 (PL. 114-113) for the Department of Labor Research and Evaluation (LRE) grants. The CEO is soliciting applications from university-based researchers to fund up to ten Department of Labor Research and Evaluation (LRE) grants for a period of up to two years. Grants of no more than $250,000 per grantee over a two-year period will be awarded. Suggested topic areas for an LRE grant that are of priority interest to DOL include but are not limited to:• Employee Benefits Security,• Miners’ Safety and Health,• Wage and Hour and Labor Standards, • Worker and Workplace Safety and Health,• Workers’ Compensation,• Labor/Management Relations,• International Topics in Worker Protection including child and forced labor issues,• Improving Equal Employment Opportunities for Targeted Populations,• Innovative approaches to evaluating the impact of DOL worker protection programs and policies using existing administrative or other data, and • Low-cost randomized controlled trials or natural experiments to evaluate the impact of DOL programs.The period of performance for the LRE grants is between 12 and 24 months with an anticipated start date of December 1, 2016. This performance period includes all necessary implementation and start-up activities. Depending on the nature of the research, LRE applicants may propose a 12-, 18- or 24- month period of performance. No federal funding is anticipated beyond the initial grant period.
