Description of Program and/or Project a. Background: The National Seed Strategy for Rehabilitation and Restoration (Seed Strategy) provides goals and objectives for development of genetically appropriate native seed for the rehabilitation and restoration of public lands. The purpose of this program is to establish a national, high quality, accurately identified and well documented native plant species seed collection. The national collection acts as a basis for off- site conservation and, where and when appropriate, can be used for study and multiplication in the native materials development program. b. Objectives: The purpose and objective of this project is to provide opportunities for students and recent graduates to obtain valuable field and laboratory experience by being exposed to various natural resource management and restoration projects on public land. This project would preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery; assist those most impacted by economic adversity; provide investments needed to increase economic efficiency by spurring technological advances in science and; invest in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits.
