ABSTRACT: Funding Announcement P16AS00520; Project Title: Glacier Bay National Park Backcountry/Wilderness Visitor Use Study; Recipient: Utah State University; Principal Investigator: Dr. Chris Monz; Total Anticipated Award Amount: $56,261; Cost Share: No; Anticipated Length of Agreement: 17 months; Anticipated Period of Performance August 1, 2016 through December 31,2017; Award Instrument: CESU Task Agreement; Statutory Authority 54 USC Sec.100703: Cooperative Study Units; CFDA # and Title: 15.945 Cooperative Research and Training Programs, Resources of the National Park System; Single Source Justification Criteria Cited: Not required - CESU; Point of Contact: Lewis Sharman OVERVIEW STATEMENT OF JOINT OBJECTIVES/PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN: Develop and administer a visitor study at Glacier Bay National Park with the objective to understand visitor demographics, characteristics, and trip tendencies. The purpose of this research opportunity is to better understand users in GLBA's backcountry/wilderness in order to inform the park's upcoming backcountry management plan. RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT: Develop and administer a social survey to park visitors using quantitative social normative tools and analysis objectives. Share results with NPS to help enhance backcountry park visitor experiences and management.NATIONAL PARK SERVICE INVOLVEMENT: Provide visitor use statistics and pertinent information, guidance on study schedule and deliverables, assist in the cooperative work phase and assist with the design of the digitized survey instrument and sampling plan, assist with training for Utah State University (USU) students, provide oversight and assistance for USU students on-site, participate in the cooperative work phase and describe NPS management needs during the substantive discussion of quantitative social normative tools and analysis objectives, and provide researcher lodging and field work support.
