The 21st Century Conservation Service Corps (21CSC) is a collaborative effort to put America’s youth and veterans to work protecting, restoring and enhancing America’s great outdoors. Through the 21 CSC, young people and veterans will accomplish meaningful work, and gain important personal and professional skills while building a lifelong connection to the outdoors. The Recipient is a member of the Student Conservation Association of CESU/Youth Master Agreement Recipient, who was awarded a Master Cooperative Agreement P15AC00031 allowing the Student Conservation Association to participate in specific tasks, and can provide the necessary activities involved in this particular task while providing an effective outcome for NPS and the objectives of this research/educational project. The objective of this Agreement is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of our environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land through service opportunities, outdoor skills, and leadership training. All Student Conservation Association (SCA) programs strive to benefit both the environment and student members of the organization. For this project, youth participants will be engaged in resources management work involving wetlands restoration at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. As part of the project, youth will be introduced to an ecosystem type, wetlands, that provide critical services necessary to maintain an overall healthy environment. The youth crew will be trained by NPS staff to conduct wetland restoration actions inclusive of eradication of invasive species, plant installation, plant propagation, and seed collection.
