Assessing changes in the Distribution of Manayunkia Speciosa related to high flow events in the Klamath River

Description
Funds under this single source CESU award are to be used to collaborate with Arcata Fish and Wildlife Office Fisheries Program staff to collect, process, and analyze benthic invertebrate samples to measure habitat use and relative density of Manayunkia speciosa, the benthic invertebrate host of the Ceratonova shasta disease cycle. More specifically, this project will investigate how the distribution of M. speciosa correlates with the peak magnitude and duration of managed discharges from Iron Gate Dam. The overall goal of these studies is to develop science-based management alternatives that can be implemented to disrupt the distribution and abundance of infected polychaetes to cause a reduction in the prevalence of infection and associated mortality in native salmonid fishes. This award is made under the authority of Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act of 1958, 16 U.S.C.661.
