Description

This task agreement will generate two baseline documents and advice for Pullman National Monument and provide training for Industrial Heritage and Archaeology students at Michigan Technological University. Pullman National Monument is a newly created NPS unit that was designated a component of the National Park System to preserve and interpret the industrial and town planning of George Pullman, the labor history at Pullman, and the Pullman Porter organization. The IH&A Group from MTU is uniquely qualified to undertake this project that combines aspects of industrial archaeology, oral history, documentary history, and urban planning. NPS is jointly developing the scope and activities to be accomplished. NPS will also provide technical assistance to the IH&G Group. The Recipient is a member of the Great Lakes-Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit who was awarded a Master Cooperative Agreement (NPS P12AC31164) allowing Michigan Technological University to participate in specific tasks, and can provide the necessary activities involved in this particular task while providing an effective outcome for NPS and the objectives of this research/educational project. The IH&A Group will undertake the needed research using student research assistants and the project will facilitate the training of a PhD student in Industrial Heritage and Archeology. Student will collate and integrate multiple primary data sources for IH&A researchers to synthesize and make management recommendations.
