Bureau of Democracy Human Rights and Labor

Description

The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that protect fundamental freedoms in Morocco. DRL seeks to support programs to increase advocacy for and implementation of a strong legal framework that protects the freedom of expression, association, and assembly. Projects should have the potential to have an immediate impact leading to long-term sustainable reforms, and should demonstrate the potential for sustainability beyond DRL resources. Where appropriate, programs should seek to constructively engage with government entities and officials regarding deficiencies in protections for fundamental freedoms. DRL’s preference is to not duplicate past efforts, but instead support new and creative approaches. This does not exclude from consideration projects that improve upon or expand existing successful projects in a new and complementary way. DRL also strives to ensure its projects advance the rights and uphold the dignity of the most vulnerable or at-risk populations. Applicants should clearly describe how they will engage Moroccan experts and institutional partners. The proposed program also must address how it will leverage existing civil society efforts to advocate for and ensure the implementation of fundamental freedoms in Morocco.
