Description

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Great Lakes Science Center is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to improve understanding of the food-web linkages between nearshore and offshore that emphasizes larval fish and improving understanding in their survival and growth. This project is under the umbrella of the 2017 Coordinated Science and Monitoring Initiative that focuses on the Lake Huron Ecosystem. The USGS design includes sampling nine nearshore-to-offshore transects, with water, plankton, Mysis, and larvae, and fish being sampled at nearshore (< 18 m), intermediate (~45 m), and offshore (>80 m) bottom depth locations at each transect. It also locates transects along a gradient of proximity to tributary inputs of phosphorus. Sampling of transects will occur in May, June, and July.
