Description

SSU and NPS will collaborate in an effort to conduct and report on historic archeological research and field investigations on those portions of the Fort Barry Firing Range (FBFR), as well as documenting and determining whether those areas investigated contain cultural materials, stratigraphy, or structural features that would make the range eligible as a contributing archeological property to the Forts Baker, Barry, and Cronkhite Historic District. An assessment of project impacts to these resources, a proposition for a data recovery program or other documentation sufficient to ameliorate adverse impacts that would result from selective removal of significant features within the Area of Potential Effects (APE) would ensue. Conjoining, this information is critical for the effective management, preservation, and interpretation of those cultural resources that are identified within the study area for students and future generations to enjoy, appreciate, and better understand the cultural resources within this National Park. The Anthropological Studies Center of SSU will coordinate and oversee the Universityâ¿¿s participation.
