Youth-focused organizations will provide teams and individual interns to work on natural resource and recreation projects on California public lands. Each Public Service Youth Conservation team will consist of a supervisor who will direct and supervise the crew of up to 15 youth members. California may request two to eight youth teams annually within one of the 15 field office or at the state and/or district levels. In addition, California may request eight to 18 individual youth interns who will be mentored at the state, district, or field office levels. Projects made available under this NOFO are developed in collaboration with the BLM-CA Youth Program State Lead and District/Field Offices with an emphasis on providing valuable training and mentorship opportunities to youth. The BLM-CA is committed to connecting diverse youth to their public lands and natural and culture heritage through providing service projects, recreational experiences, and especially natural resource-based employment and educational opportunities, including scientific research. These projects provide the participants with real-world job skills training, education, mentorship and/or professional development, inspire interest in higher education /agency career paths and instill stewardship principles.
