Description

The Elimination of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission Stakeholders Group (SG) was convened by CDC to support and facilitate the operation of CDC’s Framework to Eliminate Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission. The EMCT-SG considers ideas regarding perinatal HIV transmission—whether originating within EMCT-SG or elsewhere—and influences the field through activities conducted by its members and by influencing the activities of the institutions represented by its membership. This funding will expand the scope of the previous SG by supporting more and different activities and creating a network of professionals with roles in perinatal HIV prevention. The new SG will address priorities for National HIV/AIDS Strategy 2020 Research and Programmatic Agenda for Mental Health and Substance Use, i.e., screening, integrated care and prevention services, and addressing the special needs of key populations. Grantee activities will include the following: Work with CDC to update CDC’s Framework for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission to reflect current HIV epidemiology and the structures in which HIV prevention and care are delivered. Convene a new group of stakeholders representing a broader network of public health professionals and clinical care providers who will implement the updated framework. Develop and disseminate strategies for jurisdictions to describe their progress in-- and/or maintenance of-- elimination of perinatal HIV transmission. Develop and disseminate best practice models for integration of obstetric/gynecologic care, HIV care, mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Develop educational and best-practice-sharing networks of the perinatal HIV prevention workforce including clinical care providers and public health professionals.
