Description

This agreement provides benefits to the public by contributing to the conservation of the desert tortoise by helping to minimize the threat of disease from captive tortoises. Specifically, will assist USFW with developing a desert tortoise adoption expansion program to include areas outside of Las Vegas; provide the public information and assistance to increase awareness of the laws pertaining to captive tortoises; and promote responsible care by all persons who maintain captive tortoises. Results of this project benefit and directly support ongoing and proposed programs of the Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife, and other resource management agencies with responsibilities for threatened, endangered and other species.
