BLM CA Vya Wildlife Community Response Assessment
ArchivedBureau of Land Management
Description
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Applegate Field Office has selected pinyon and juniper (Pinus and Juniperus spp.) woodlands across the Great Basin for removal in their efforts to maintain sagebrush habitat for the Greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus). These large, spatially replicated management efforts provide an opportunity to investigate the impacts of woodland removal on both those species that are reliant on sagebrush and those likely to be negatively affected by the decreased woodlands. The BLM Applegate Field Office has engaged in woodland removal during the past three years within the Vya Project Planning Area and continues to implement treatments. BLM is lacking data on treatment effects to the community of wildlife species using the area.
