Description

The “Strengthening Egypt’s Family Planning Program” (SEFPP) Activity will providetechnical assistance and training in support of Egypt’s Family Planning/Reproductive Health(FP/RH) Program. It is anticipated that the focused interventions under SEFPP will result inincreasing demand for FP services and improving the quality of services and ultimately willlead to a positive change in contraceptive use and in reducing fertility over time. The SEFPPwill build upon the work of ongoing health activities to the extent feasible. The focus ofimplementation of the SEFPP Activity will be on the nine governorates of Upper Egypt1 andthe slum areas of Cairo and Alexandria. These geographic areas have the highest TotalFertility Rate (TFR) and comparatively low Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR). Supportto these governorates will focus on increasing availability and access to high impactinterventions in reproductive health as well as ensuring the quality of family planning service provision. Improving the adoption of health behaviors through social and behavior change communication (SBCC) is another major area of emphasis in these governorates. Policy improvement work will have a national focus. FP/RH activities, with varying modalities, may extend to other governorates. Sustainability of activity interventions is a priority. Monitoring, evaluation, and special studies will be conducted throughout implementation in keeping with that goal.
